Chateau Rollan de By 2001 (review)

90 points

From Bordeaux, France.

Dark with considerable glycerol. Very dense small barrel French oaky nose. Follows through on the palate - this demands some aging. Quite burly.

For a plain Medoc this is pretty intense, and perhaps even classy. Worth revisiting to see if the points score I gave is really warranted.

A bottle tried in Australia was certainly burly rather than fine. I think 90 points now seems a tad too high. Time will tell. (May 2005)

Beautiful aromas, lovely lovely oak. But it is challenging to drink, burly indeeed, needs time to soften these tannins and fatten the mid palate.
