Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste 1989 (review)

91 points

From Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

Hugely ripe wine. Almost like a St Emilion. Very impressive. Roger and Anne gave this top marks but I prefered the Sociando Mallet 96 which was concentrated without being so baked.

I've warmed to the 89's and this seems as fresh (ripe but not too ripe) an example as I've found. Round, velvetty tannin and still loads of juiciness at 16years. Couldn't be written off as "New World".
